Moving On From Kuala Lumpur
To begin, select a topic in the navigation bar to the
left
Airport
The easiest way to get to the airport is to call a taxi
from your hotel (RM65); taxis flagged down on the street tend not to want to go
out that far. Most of the larger hostels can help arrange transport to the
airport for around the same price. Otherwise, call the airport coach service
(tel 03/653 3154), preferably giving a day's notice, to ensure you're picked up
from your hotel in good time. Or thirdly, do the Nilai route in reverse:
enter KL railway station from Jalan Sambathan; take the Komuter Train from platform 3B
(end station Seramban), getting off at Nilai, then change onto the local airport
bus from directly outside the station.
Trains
The station's information kiosk (daily 8am-8pm) has
up-to-date train timetables; call 03/274 7443 or 273 8000 for information and
reservations. You must book, preferably at least three days ahead, for the night
sleeper to Singapore or Butterworth; most large hotels can do this for you
Buses and long-distance taxis
For long-distance bus route information, call the English-speaking
Infoline (tel 03/230 0300). Most long-distance buses leave from Pudu Raya bus
station (tel 03/230 0145) on Jalan Pudu, just to the east of Chinatown. The
buses leave from ground-floor bays, and ticket offices are on the floor above,
along with a left-luggage office (daily 8am-10pm; RM2). Some buses also operate
from outside the terminus - these are legitimate, but may only leave when full.
Long-distance taxis also use Pudu Raya, arriving and departing from the
second floor above the bus ticket offices.
For some departures you'll need one of the other bus stations: Putra (tel
03/442 9530), near the Putra World Trade Centre, for the east coast; Klang (tel
03/230 7694) on Jalan Sultan Mohammed Services for Klang and Port Klang; and
Pekeliling (tel 03/442 1256) at the northern end of Jalan Raja Laut, for Kuantan
and the interior
Ferries
Ferries to Tanjung Balai, in Sumatra, depart from Port Klang, 38km
southwest of KL. Take the Komuter train or a bus from the Klang bus station on
Jalan Sultan Mohammed to the port
